Morrisseau is an Ojibwe artist who was born and died in Ontario. He did his first sketches at the age of 6. His first painting was done on birch bark. Norval had a eminent, yet troubled career. Although there were hardships along the way, he had many successful exhibitions in renowned galleries and received the Order of Canada in 1978.
